Yard of the Month for April – Congratulations Reminders: Your 2011 maintenance fees are now due. The enlarged seasonal flower bed at the entrance will be planted as soon as the threat of frost has passed. Older News Neighborhood Crime Alert PMHOA President Kerney Hall has been informed of a car break-in which occurred near the far end of Riverfront in which some items were taken. Our downward turned economy has unfortunately seen a rise in this kind of crime. Please stay vigilant and pay attention to what goes on in the neighborhood. As spring approaches and we are all out more, we can keep an eye out for each other. We also wanted to pass along that there is a person in the Lilburn area walking up to houses and asking for money, giving various stories. He is a bit scary because he approaches women and children in their yards and becomes agitated if he is refused. He has been arrested many times prviously, and served time, but he seems to be out now and back at it. He has not been observed in the Moorings, but this is the kind of thing we should all watch out for. Older Articles and Tidbits Unfinished Derelict House How would you like to see this eyesore unfinished house every day from your very own front yard? Well Gary and Kay Summerville do, and they are sick of it (as would you be), and we need to help do something about it. Please e-mail Gwinnett Commissioner Mike Beaudreau (mike_beaudreau@gwinnettcounty.com) and encourage others in our neighborhood to do the same. Tell Commissioner Beaudreau that we want action taken on this house. The owner needs to do the right thing and finish it or tear it down. The address of this mess is 2730 Riverfront. A video of recent WSB TV news ccverage of the situation is available here.
Homeowner's Association Meeting The last meeting of the MHOA was Tuesday August 10 at the home of Jim and Jeannie Mangham. The meeting started at 7:30 PM. It was decided to install a mailbox to distribute flyers, newsletters, and any other printed material that we have no other inexpensive or practical means to get out to the neighborhood. This mailbox is located near the bottom of the hill on the driver's side (left) after you enter Moorings Parkway. Paving Well the recent paving was a double-edged sword. About 95% of the neighborhood was resurfaced (and looks great by the way). Unfortunately, for some reason Ravenwolfe and Balmoral Court were missed. Ravenwolfe looks worse now due to the black asphalt residue from cars tracking the new pavement from Ashington or Moorings Parkway. This will probably erode in time but we are left with a "mis-matched" patchwork neighborhood. If you would like to help us be a "squeaky wheel" and get on the list for upcoming paving, you can call the DOT Service Request Center number at 770-822-7474 and ask that Ravenwolfe and Balmoral Court be paved. The Operation Manager office number is 770-822-8000 in case you want to call it as well. Every call may help get us looking right, and not like a patchwork quilt. Congratulations - 2010 MHOA Yard of the Month Winners June – Marshun Johnson August – Susan & Flo & Joan Hampton The Moorings Yard of the Month is based upon beauty, maintenance and seasonal appeal. All homeowners who are in good standing with the Association (maintenance assessment current) are eligible for the honor. Everyone is encouraged to keep their yard free of dead trees and shrubbery and debris. Regular lawn maintenance not only keeps your yard beautiful but helps spot problems and diseases early, saving time, money and landscape. Even Older Stuff The Neighborhood Work Day was Saturday June 5th 2010. Thanks to all the folks who showed up to work including member-at-large Roy Clanton for coordinating this. Much flood mud was shoveled, weeds were pulled, bushes trimmed, trash hauled and sweat generated. Our annual Neighborhood Garage Sale was Saturday June 19th 2010. A casual drive-through of the neighborhood indicated that about 20 households took advantage of the traffic that day and sold their stuff! It was great weather. Front Entrance Beautification! If you read our newsletter you will learn about our new maintenance company. Some preliminary ideas are in the works to update our entrance. We are discussing removing the cedars that obsure the view of the Moorings sign, and replacing a lot of the aging (and sometimes dying) shrubbery with flowering plants. Click on the thumbnail images below to see the front entrance as it looks today: PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES! IF YOU PLEDGED TO PAY, WE NEED YOUR PAYMENT NOW!
