Newsletter 2nd Quarter 2011

August 20, 2011

We thank those who support the association with their attendance at HoA meetings.  We understand Tuesday evening is not convenient for everyone, but we encourage you to attend when possible.  We only have 4 meetings a year.  The Board is continuing to work for the betterment of the neighborhood.  If you have causes or concerns about something, please do not hesitate to contact a Board member. We will do our best to implement your suggestion or resolve the problem.

Plans include ongoing improvements to the entrance with grass seeding and fall color beds once the weather is cooler.  This week electricity was restored to the trio of light posts at the entrance on Old Annistown Bridge Rd.  Thanks to Kerney Hall for taking care of it.  We will also have pine straw spread in the planted area around those posts. We’ve discussed for years having some type of neighborhood announcement board and Lucy & Bill Smith have volunteered to make it happen.  We voted a budget of $1500 for the project.  It will be located near the creek in the vacant lot as you drive out.  It will be compatible with the esthetics of the neighborhood and you will be able to read it without getting out of your car.

Thanks to Roy Clanton and the “committee” who have watered the entrance this hot summer.  We do not have a fall work day planned but if you see work that needs to be done, please notify Roy.  If you live on a street corner, please keep shrubbery cut back so cars are able to see one another.  As plants ages, they can grow to obstruct sightlines.

Resurfacing the tennis courts was discussed and tabled until the February meeting.  We will keep the courts playable but feel the cost to resurface them and upgrade the bathrooms is not supported by the assessment fees we have collected this year.  This project was encouraged in the survey we offered at the first of this fiscal year, so we will revisit it when we plan next year’s budget.

We voted to continue the luminaries at the entrance during the Christmas season.  The date will be determined at our November MHOA Meeting.   Marlyn Carson, who will host the event as she has in the past, reported that because we buy in bulk, we had enough supplies left for 2010 but this year we will have some expense, less than $500, for the project.  The Board will host a hamburger/hotdog cookout the day of the luminaries. We encourage everyone to come and enjoy a festive time with your neighbors during the holiday season.
